June 13, 2009Congratulations to our Seniors!With the end of the school year, we want to congratulate all of our graduating seniors! The Class of 2009 is the largest we've graduated and while we are thrilled that you've reached your senior year and will be heading off to college this fall, know that we will miss those of you heading out of state and out of classes! Congratulations to two of our seniors, Melissa R and Rachel M, for being selected for scholarships from the Irish Dance Teachers Association of North America. Congratulations to Margot W who travelled to the Raleigh Feis and got her 2nd first at the Preliminary level. She is now an OPEN Champion, the highest level possible for an Irish dancer. Way to go!!!!!!!
December 30, 2008IDTANA Scholarships for College-bound dancers
Each year the Irish Dance Teachers Association of North America provides an opportunity for college-age Irish dancers to apply for merit-based scholarships to assist with college tuition.
Two types of scholarship awards are given:
- At least three scholarships for college-bound high school seniors graduating in Spring 2009 Scholarship amounts will be determined later. Winners will be announced at the 2009 North American Championships in Nashville, Tennessee in July 2009. The deadline for application is March 27, 2009. Follow this link to download an application. Congratulations to all of our teams and dancers who traveled to Orlando this weekend for the 2008 Southern Region Oireachtas, including:
- Under 9 Boys Champion Patrick A A number of solo dancers also qualified for the 2009 North American Irish Dance Championships. Culkin ceili teams also placed in the Mixed Under 12 8 Hand, Mixed Under 15 8 Hand, Girls 15&Over 4 Hand, Adult Ladies 8 Hand, Adult Ladies 4 Hand and Adult Mixed 4 Hand. Thanks, too, to all the parents and family members of our dancers -- especially the first-time Oireachtas-goers. It takes a lot of coordination to get 100+ dancers to and from Florida. The hard work and dedication of the dancers and their supporters paid off! And a special thanks to our adult teams -- who were awarded the 4 and 8 hand championships for the 5th year in a row! Here's wishing great dancing and safe travels to the Culkin School dancers heading to the North American Irish Dance Championships this week in Nashville, Tennessee. Championship dancers Nikki M, Corrine M and Sean R will be competing in solo competitions. And the Ladies Ceili team will represent the Culkin School in the Adult Ladies 8-hand team competition. Dancers include: Tammy L, Kate R, KC F, Melissa d, Alexandra W, Julie D, Amy T-W, Debbie K and our alternate Bonnie Z.

Sessions will be held for all levels of adult dancers on Wednesday evenings from 8:00 to 10:00pm beginning June 25 and ending August 27. The idea of these sessions is to work on and refine material dancers already have. Please download a registration form and return it to reserve your space.
May 25, 2008Congratulations to our CCE Competitors... and our newest Champs!Congratulations to all of our dancers who did so well today at the Comhaltas Irish Dance Festival - the CCE Feis. It was great to see so many out there wearing the Sligo black and white! Congrats, especially, to three of our newest championship dancers: Kia R and Mary Margaret S both qualified for Prelminary Championships. And earning her second 1st place in prelims, Allie P qualifies for Open Championships! Way to go girls! May 19, 2008Registration for New Beginners Open
Registration for the 2008-2009 class year for new beginners is now available. The Culkin School class year runs from September through June.
For the school year beginning in September 2008, six beginner classes will be offered that are open to boys and girls aged 5-10, as well as a new Culkin Kids class for students ages 3-5. Class start dates will be posted as soon as they are available.
Our “CULKIN KIDS” program is 30 minutes long and runs 7 or 10 weeks. There is no separate registration fee for these classes. Classes are held Saturdays, 9:00 at Rockville United Methodist Church
