DANCE ORGANIZATIONS

The Culkin School of Traditional Irish Dance is a member of An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha (CLRG). CLRG is the Irish dancing commission based in Dublin, whose goal is to preserve and promote Irish dancing. If you’d like to learn more about the organization in which we belong, just click here!

The United States is broken up into several Irish dancing regions; Maryland, Virginia and DC are all part of the Southern Irish Dance Region. To check out the Southern Region website, just click here!


FEIS LINKS

The North American Feis Commision (NAFC) is an organization of Feis Managers responsible for the organizing Feiseanna in Canada and the United States. They provide a yearly listing of all Feiseanna in North America. To find a feis near us, click here! 

FEIS REGISTRATION COMPANIES:

There are several feis registration companies that schools may use when running a competition. Please find links to the most popular feis registration companies. If you are new to “feising” it is recommended that you create accounts for all of the companies listed below at the same time and use the same login and passwords for all of them.

IRISH DANCING TV SHOWS AND DOCUMENTARIES

RTÉ, a television station in Ireland has created a six part documentary on Irish dancing called “Jigs & Wigs”. If you’re interested in checking it out, click here!

TG4, a Gaelic television station in Ireland is hosting a show called “An Jig Gig” which is a competitive program in which traditional Irish, Sean Nós, brush and set dancers perform and compete to be crowned the champion! Click here to check this show out!

“JIG” the movie is a documentary that follows Irish dancers and their teachers during the 40th World Championships. If you haven’t seen it, you should! Click here for more information!


LOCAL IRISH MUSIC SCENE

Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCE) is the largest non-profit organization involved in the preservation and promotion of Irish music and culture. The O’Neill Malcom Branch in Washington, DC promotes local Irish music, dance and culture. Our own Sean Culkin is a branch officer of CCE. Click here to check out their website!

The Culkin School has performed with the traditional Irish band, “Lilt”. Click here to listen to their beautiful music.

Terry Winch, Jesse Winch, Brendan Mulvihill, Eileen Estes and Linda Hickman are the Narrowbacks a local Irish band worth a listen. The school has performed many times with them. Click here for more information.

The school has had the pleasure of dancing with Billy McComiskey, who is a world renown accordion player. Check out his music here!
